Why Photography?
I started to get into photography during the lockdown in 2020, just to get out and try some new things. After that it was time to choose a subject for college and I knew right then that being a photographer is exactly what I wanted.
I like making people feel seen and trying out new things for both me and the person I'm with. Whether it's in a studio or being outside, with a lot of colour grading and editing, or just simple and subtle edits. I like being creative and sprinkle some personal touches from both me and the model in my creations.
Portrait photography always resonated with me, being able to talk to a person and laugh around, trying new things and both failing and getting exactly what we wanted. I enjoy making connections with people and being creative together. That's what art is all about, bringing creative people together.
But who's Mylo?
Hi, I'm Mylo. I sometimes go by MJ as well.
I'm a 21 year old from Hoorn, The Netherlands, and I always loved being creative. As kid, and sometimes still as adult, I struggled with staying with a creative outlet when I wasn't immediately good at it, nothing really stuck with me. But then I got my first camera and I couldn't put it away even when I took the most horrible pictures. I finally found something I truly wanted to learn about and keep practicing and trying, so I did. Now I don't give up on new things that easily anymore.
I now write stories, try out poetry from time to time, I even try drawing and allow myself to be bad at it. I don't need to be good at something to enjoy it. And with that I found myself in the chaos of creation. Got my ADHD diagnoses, came out as a trans man, all my friends and family supported me.
Creation and chaos shaped me into who I am now, and I'm grateful for it.
